Hunting

For hunters we offer wildfowl and hare hunting. The quota varies annually according to the quantity of game in the area. Moose hunting with a group is also available.

For those who do not hunt, there are good areas for berry and mushroom picking in close proximity to the cottages.

MOOSE HUNTING

On our hunting excursions you hunt as a guest of our hunting club, or on private land. The excursions reach over wild woodland which is not open for other hunting groups.

Dogs are used in moose hunting. Our hunting guests are taken to stalking spots where they stay and wait for the moose to appear. The hunting party will include 2-4 guides.

Hunters have to be in relatively good physical condition, but stalking spots are also found near logging roads. Hunting guests must have their own firearms and cartridges, valid hunting cards and shooting licences for the animal in question. They also need proper outdoor clothes and gear.

Hunting guests stay in holiday cottages at Ollila. Breakfasts and dinners are served at Restaurant Juomuskota, lunches on the hunt.

The price includes transports, accommodation, bed linen, breakfasts, picnic lunches, dinners, guidance, permit arrangements and liability insurance. Alcoholic beverages will be charged separately.

The shooter gets the hide or antlers (separate charge for antlers with more than 8 spikes or creation of trophies). If moose fall soon, you can carry on and hunt for small game, arctic hare or fox. It is possible to sight your rifles, or buy additional licences for moose.

All hunting excursions must always be guided.

Arrangements for necessary hunting permits in Finland take at least 4 weeks.

In order to obtain a Finnish hunting card, a copy of a hunting card issued by the hunting guest’s native country is required.

Firearms transport licence is required in Finland. An application for the licence must be sent at least 1 month before the hunt to the Kuusamo police authorities. They require a copy of a similar licence issued in the hunting guest’s native country, and the itinerary of the hunting trip. The hunting guest also needs an export licence from the police authorities of his/her place of residence, for which similar documents are required.

Shooting permit is required for moose and bear. The permit is equivalent to passing the Finnish shooting test. The hunting guest can receive the permit by showing a valid certificate of a corresponding shooting test issued in his/her native country, or a firearms certificate for big game hunting.

If the firearm is used for shooting moose or bear, the cartridge bullet must weigh at least 9 grams, and the bullet scoring energy when measured 100 metres from the muzzle must be at least 2700 joules (E 100 > 2700 J) or, when a bullet weighs at least 10 grams, the scoring energy measured in a similar manner must be at least 2000 joules (E 100 > 2000 J). A full jacket bullet may not be used for shooting moose or bear.

It is also possible to rent firearms, if it is very difficult to bring those of your own. Then the hunting guest must provide copies of a firearms certificate issued for a similar firearm in his/her native country, a hunting card and itinerary of his/her hunting trip. An application for this so-called parallel licence must be sent to Kuusamo police authorities at least 1 month before the hunt.
